About Aldar Properties
Aldar is Abu Dhabi's largest listed developer. Its shares trade on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. Abu Dhabi's planning department approved its creation in October 2004, and it was incorporated in February 2005. Its largest shareholder is Alpha Dhabi Holding, part of International Holding Company, which held about 31.6% in November 2025. A unit of the state fund Mubadala was the second-largest.
In 2006 it announced its plan for Yas Island, land granted to it by the Abu Dhabi government. It built the Yas Marina Circuit, which hosts the Formula 1 race, and the Ferrari World theme park there. It also built much of Al Raha Beach, and its completed homes on Saadiyat Island include Mamsha Al Saadiyat and Jawaher.
It was hit hard when Abu Dhabi prices fell by more than a third from their 2008 peak. In 2010 it sold Yas Marina Circuit, the island's roads and the marina to the government for Dh9.1 billion. In January 2011 the government agreed a Dh19.2 billion deal with it. Later that year a Dh16.8 billion package followed, in which the government bought assets such as Central Market and 760 homes at Al Raha Beach to cut its debt. In June 2013 it merged with Sorouh Real Estate and kept the Aldar name.
It entered Dubai in 2023 through a joint venture with Dubai Holding. Its first Dubai launches were Haven, Athlon and The Wilds.
